Overview:

Pipelayers lay pipe for storm or sanitary sewers, drains and water mains. They cover pipe with earth or other materials, cut pipes to required lengths and help align and position pipe for welding and sealing. They also dig trenches to the desired depths. This individual is responsible for carrying out assigned tasks/responsibilities efficiently and effectively. They will meet quality standards and production targets set by the organization. They will follow established procedures, guidelines, and best practices. It is important that they maintain open and constructive communication with colleagues, supervisors, and other stakeholders. Finally, they will show punctuality and reliability in fulfilling work obligations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Pipelayers lay pipe for storm sewers, sanitary sewers and watermains
  • Install related structures such as manholes, catch basins, valves, and hydrants and assist with tie-ins to existing systems
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area
  • Signals equipment operators to ensure a safe and proper excavation around underground utilities
  • Establish alignment and grade with the use of a pipe laser
  • Responsible for proper bedding, spring-line and cover lift thickness and compaction
  • Operate mechanized equipment such as diesel plate packer, quick cut saw, jumping jack compactor, and a variety of other hand tools
  • Strong understanding of proper dewatering measures in trenches
  • Experience working with various types of shoring boxes
  • Strong understanding of the various soil types and the sloping requirements
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
  • Experience with hoisting and rigging for pipes and shoring boxes
  • Responsible for the setup and safe execution of utility supports for underground utilities

Requirements:

  • 2-3 years of experience as a Pipelayer
  • current driver’s license
  • access to reliable vehicle

Wage Range:

The hourly range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $32.00 and $40.00 per hour. However, the range offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.
