Pipelayers lay pipe for storm or sanitary sewers, drains and water mains. They cover pipe with earth or other materials, cut pipes to required lengths and help align and position pipe for welding and sealing. They also dig trenches to the desired depths.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Dig trenches to required depth by hand or using trenching tools
  • Cuts and moves pipe into trenches, aligns, and joins them
  • Cover pipes with earth or other material
  • Signal equipment operators to ensure a safe and proper excavation
  • Establish alignment and grade with the use of a laser
  • Operate mechanized equipment such as pickup trucks, rollers, tandem dump trucks, front-end loaders, and backhoes
  • Other general labour and construction related duties as required

Requirements:

  • 1 to 3 years of experience in underground pipe laying or assisting pipe layers
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 25 to 50 lbs on a regular basis
  • Valid drivers license and own mode of transportation required
  • Work in all weather conditions
  • Overtime as required

The Skilled Labourer is responsible to construct, erect, install, maintain, and repair structures and components of structures made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel, and other materials while maintaining client and trade partner relationships in the industry.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine scope of work.
  • Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools for commercial buildings and condo/apartment buildings.
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel, and other materials.
  • Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring, and erect walls and roof systems.
  • Fit and install trim items, such as doors, stairs, molding, and hardware.
  • Complete material take-offs for work tasks.
  • Pre-plan tool and material requirements for projects.
  • Manage material for work tasks in an efficient manner to minimize waste.
