Health and Safety Coordinator will support operations by providing guidance and assistance at the site level with, health and safety program implementation, execution of planned health and safety initiatives, and adherence to legislative & company standard requirements.  Work closely with site operations to ensure appropriate health and safety practices are in place, understood and effectively used to avoid preventable health and safety occurrences.

The General Contracting division at Thomas Cavanagh Construction has proudly provided comprehensive general contracting and construction management services to the community for over a decade. Our privileged engagement extends to overseeing and constructing projects for external clients, as well as contributing internally to various divisions within the Cavanagh organization.

The Working Foreperson is responsible to manage and work along-side a team of workers to construct, erect, install, maintain, and repair structures and components of structures while maintaining client and trade partner relationships in the industry. They would be responsible for small projects within our larger developments as well as complete ownership of smaller scale projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall coordination and day to day scheduling of projects.
  • Health and safety of all workers as per Cavanagh’s Health and Safety Policy and Procedures as well as the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Daily site superintendent logs and hazard analysis/workplans through Site Docs.
  • Lead, plan, organize and implement all aspects of the project on site along side Project Manager.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine scope of work.
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel, and other materials.
  • Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring, and erect walls and roof systems.
  • Fit and install trim items, such as doors, stairs, molding, and hardware.
  • Manage material for work tasks in an efficient manner to minimize waste.
  • Meet with Owners and Consulting teams in a professional manner and communicate effectively both the concerns and best interests of the company.
  • Maintain active quality control program to ensure compliance with the Cavanagh GC Standards.
  • Engage and build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure common goals are achieved and corporate interests are kept in mind.
  • Manage, mentor and train internal staff.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the Construction industry with leadership and carpentry role.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Site Superintendent training is considered an asset.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and communicate with project managers, forepersons, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure smooth project execution.

Wage Range:

The salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $95,000 and $145,000 per year. However, the range offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall construction management from pre-construction to completion including design, coordination, budget, and schedule in conjunction with all stakeholders.
  • Prepare regular, timely and accurate billings for Owners, and ensure timely payment of subcontractor billings.
  • Meet with Owners and Consulting teams in a professional manner and communicate effectively both the concerns and best interests of the company.
  • Monitor, interpret and forecast a project’s cost reports ensuring they are in line with the estimate and maintain a positive cash flow.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist Project Manager with planning, organizing, and implementing all aspects of the project in accordance with project specifications.
  • Work closely with Cavanagh employees on daily tasks, coordination, and project support.
  • Act as a liaison between field and office teams.

Requirements:

  • Previous asphalt experience is required
  • Construction Technician or Civil Engineering Technician diploma considered an asset

  • Read and interpret construction drawings
  • Use survey instruments to establish correct line and grade
  • Identify any conflicts and report to site supervisor
  • Work with engineers and surveyors to solve problems
  • Achieve correct grade by directing operators of equipment to adjust grade by moving earth, gravel, and other materials
  • Measure distances from reference points or offsets to accurately install utilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate daily grading activities, ensuring work is performed efficiently and to specification
  • Read and interpret construction drawings to establish proper grades and elevations.

  • Manage and schedule a high volume of drivers, trucks, and shipments, ensuring that all routes are optimized for time, cost, and efficiency. Prioritize tasks to meet tight deadlines and adjust schedules on the fly as needed.
  • Continuously monitor traffic, weather, and operational issues, swiftly addressing delays, detours, or route changes to ensure timely deliveries. Communicate effectively with drivers and clients, resolving any disruptions in real time.
  • Handle multiple high-priority dispatch tasks simultaneously, ensuring no delays or missed deadlines. This includes coordinating urgent shipments, managing last-minute changes, and dealing with unexpected challenges while maintaining service quality.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, keeping them informed of shipment statuses and addressing any issues proactively. Provide personalized solutions while handling a high volume of customer requests or inquiries.
  • Accurately enter dispatch and shipment information into the system, ensuring that records are updated in real-time. Monitor key performance metrics and prepare reports on dispatch performance, delays, and operational efficiency.

Requirements:

  • 5 to 10 years of experience in a dispatch role with high-volume dispatching experience
  • In-depth knowledge of the Ottawa region and its surroundings, with a strong background in the construction industry.
  • Ability to handle multiple high-priority tasks simultaneously, prioritize efficiently, and meet strict deadlines, even in high-pressure situations.
  • Must be available for on-call during weekdays and weekends
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with drivers, clients, and team members. Ability to quickly assess and resolve any issues or disruptions during the dispatching process.

Heavy Equipment Mechanic repairs and maintains heavy duty equipment; responsible for diagnosis, repairs, assembles and disassembles on large equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspecting heavy construction equipment for proper performance and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions
  • Diagnosing faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine the extent of repair required
  • Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems using hand and power tools
  • Testing repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers’ specifications
  • Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment

Requirements:

  • Must be a certified Red Seal 421A Technician
  • 3 to 5 certified years of experience working on heavy equipment
