Vacuum Truck Swamper

The Swamper assists the Vac Truck Operator with the safe and efficient operation of vacuum services at various job sites. This physically demanding role involves handling hoses, supporting cleanup, aiding in material loading/unloading, and following all safety protocols. The Swamper plays a key role in maintaining job site efficiency and safety, and must be reliable, physically fit, and able to work in varying weather and environmental conditions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Vac Truck Operator with setup, operation, and cleanup of vacuum equipment at various work sites.
  • Help with handling vacuum hoses and tools to suction and remove materials from areas such as excavation sites, trenches, tanks, or sewer systems.
  • Support flushing of lines and assist sewer crews during water and sewer line commissioning.
  • Aid in loading and unloading materials, ensuring proper handling of waste according to environmental and safety guidelines.
  • Help classify and separate collected materials for appropriate disposal or recycling.
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE when working in dirty, wet, dusty, or noisy environments.
  • Assist with routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment and tools (does not include mechanical servicing).
  • Report any observed issues or hazards to the Vac Truck Operator or Supervisor promptly.
  • Maintain communication with the Operator and crew to ensure tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
  • Perform other general labor duties as needed to support the team.

Requirements:

  • Valid G license with own form of transportation to get to and from work.
  • Must be physically fit and capable of safely lifting and carrying up to 100 lbs as part of regular job duties.
  • Comfortable performing physically demanding work in various weather conditions and environments that may be dirty, dusty, wet, or noisy.
  • Ability to work in a confined space environment and/or at heights.

We are hiring a Tool Rental Counter Associate to support daily operations at our tool rental desk. This role is ideal for someone who is organized, customer-focused, and able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced construction environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage tool and equipment rentals in-house and through external suppliers, including creating purchase orders and tracking rentals.
  • Receive, stock, and maintain inventory levels for tools and materials, ensuring accurate billing and documentation in Vista software.
  • Physically load and unload tools and equipment for incoming and outgoing rentals, including operating forklifts and other material handling equipment as required.
  • Perform hands-on inspections, basic maintenance, and cleaning of returned tools and equipment to ensure readiness for the next rental.
  • Assist with manual inventory counts, lifting and moving heavy items, and reorganizing storage areas as needed to support warehouse operations.
  • Support shipping and receiving activities, including unpacking, labeling, and staging incoming materials and preparing outgoing shipments.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions when organizing yard materials or assisting with deliveries and pickups.
  • Coordinate with job sites and field staff to fulfill requests, arrange deliveries, and assist with product sourcing as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the tool rental space, storage yard, and store areas, including bathrooms and mezzanine.
  • Support over-the-phone and in-person customer inquiries, foam insulation sales, and general merchandise support.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience in a tool rental or construction supply environment.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with inventory and billing systems; Vista software experience is an asset.
  • Strong communication skills for phone, email, and in-person interactions.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to perform light physical duties and work independently and with a team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspecting heavy construction equipment for proper performance and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions
  • Diagnosing faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine the extent of repair required
  • Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems using hand and power tools
  • Testing repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers’ specifications
  • Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment

Requirements:

  • Must be a certified Red Seal 421A Technician

Thomas Cavanagh Construction is seeking a dependable and safety-conscious Water Truck Operator to support our operations by delivering water to job sites for dust control, irrigation, and soil compaction. This role is critical to maintaining site safety, environmental standards, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will be experienced with heavy vehicle operation and capable of performing routine maintenance on equipment while keeping accurate delivery records.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Fill the water truck’s tank from an approved water source, which may include hydrants, ponds,
  • or water tanks.
  • Use the truck’s equipment and controls to safely and efficiently unload water as needed.
  • Distribute water to specified locations, such as construction sites for dust control, agricultural
  • fields for irrigation, or areas in need of soil compaction for road construction
  • Adjust water flow and pressure to meet the specific requirements of the application.
  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance on the water truck to ensure it is in proper
  • working condition
  • Report any mechanical issues or defects for timely repairs.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Assistant Controller to join the Finance team for our Patten Home Division. This position plays a key role in supporting the company’s financial operations, real estate transactions, and overall business strategy through accurate reporting, sound financial analysis, and diligent process administration.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports financial operations of Patten Homes through the maintenance of up-to-date cash flow forecasts and accurate financial reporting.
  • Assists with the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and reconciliations.
  • Prepare supporting information for the annual audit and liaise with the external auditors as necessary
  • Posting journal entries for accrued expenses and revenue transactions
  • Manages tax filings (HST), offers ERP system support, and facilitates financial components of real estate transactions
  • Provide financial analytical support for management decision making processes by preparing regular and ad hoc reports as needed
  • Provide information requested by solicitors for completion of all property transactions including coordination of document execution and closings

This role involves managing a grading crew, interpreting construction drawings, and working closely with engineers, surveyors, and operators to achieve the required grade.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate daily grading activities, ensuring work is performed efficiently and to specification
  • Read and interpret construction drawings to establish proper grades and elevations.

Senior Project Manager (General Contracting)

The General Contracting division at Thomas Cavanagh Construction has proudly provided comprehensive general contracting and construction management services to the community for over a decade. Our privileged engagement extends to overseeing and constructing projects for external clients, as well as contributing internally to various divisions within the Cavanagh organization.

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for managing and reporting on multiple construction projects while maintaining client and trade partner relationships in the industry.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall construction management from pre-construction to completion including design, coordination, budget, and schedule in conjunction with all stakeholders.
  • Prepare regular, timely and accurate billings for Owners, and ensure timely payment of subcontractor billings.
  • Meet with Owners and Consulting teams in a professional manner and communicate effectively both the concerns and best interests of the company.
  • Monitor, interpret and forecast a project’s cost reports ensuring they are in line with the estimate and maintain a positive cash flow.
  • Lead project meetings with internal and external parties to monitor and support the team’s ongoing development and progression.
  • Engage and build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure common goals are achieved and corporate interests are kept in mind.
  • Participate in business development with other internal team members to help build and grow the General Contracting division.
  • Manage, mentor and train internal staff.
  • Maintain up to the minute project information using Autodesk Build project management software and Microsoft Project for scheduling.
  • Help estimating with tendering and job showings as needed.

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience managing projects in the ICI or Condo/Apartment Building industry.

Looking for a reliable and detail-oriented Vehicle Prep Technician to join our Fleet Maintenance team. This role plays a critical part in preparing company vehicles and equipment for sandblasting. The Vehicle Prep Technician ensures all units are properly cleaned, masked, and prepped according to safety and quality standards prior to surface treatment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Disassemble and remove parts such as lights, mirrors, decals, and other components as directed to expose surfaces for blasting.
  • Mask and protect non-blasted areas using tape, plastic, paper, and other materials according to prep standards.
  • Inspect vehicles for structural or surface damage and report issues to supervisors before blasting begins.
  • Maintain a clean and organized prep area, including tools, masking supplies, and safety equipment.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in vehicle or equipment preparation, detailing, or industrial coatings is considered an asset.
  • Comfortable using hand tools and masking materials in a workshop or yard environment.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and comfort working around a variety of vehicle types.
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a variety of outdoor and indoor conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standardized procedures and checklists.
